Paper out web/intranet back
5.1 Process
This is probably the most robust Attitude Survey approach. A paper questionnaire is sent to the respondent. At the top of the questionnaire or on the cover sheet a unique code is printed with instructions. The respondent has a choice to go to an Intra or Internet site and complete the questionnaire online by first inputting his/her unique access code. If s/he has any problems accessing the site, or does not have Internet access, or would just prefer to complete using paper s/he can complete the paper questionnaire and return by post.
5.2 Strengths
The user can complete the Attitude Survey questionnaire regardless of technology available. Also they can complete using the approach that best matches their personal style.
5.3 Weaknesses
Time to send the paper questionnaires to the respondents and receive back those returned by mail. More costly than the web-based approach but less costly than the paper out paper back approach.
5.4 Security
High security; when the respondent submits the Attitude Survey questionnaire only a stream of data goes back to the server not the whole questionnaire. Anyone intercepting that data would need to have a copy of the questionnaire to make sense of it. Even higher levels of security can be achieved by using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology that encrypts the data in the same way as national security services transmit high security documents.
